When I was a kid there was nothing that could delight me more than getting a brand new LEGO army tank. That was a good indication of how I would turn out. I served in the Army, and right now I am still very much in love with anything that has even the most remote military connection to it. I am an outdoorsman at the same time, so imagine my delight when I found out about the ILBE backpack.
ILBE stands for Improved Load Bearing Euipment and it is now the standard backpack for Marines who are deployed in the field. For decades soldiers of the United States Military have used a backpack that was based on a World War Two era design. While that design proved quite useful in that conflict, the changing period and locations where US soldiers needs to be deployed has called for a revolutionary change in the way that soldiers carry their gear. Marine Corps leadership therefore decided to develop a new kind of backpack that would incorporate all the technological advances of the past decades that can be applied to it. Thus the ILBE was born.
This lightweight backpack can be broken down in three components as the need arises. There’s the Survival for carrying all the necessary equipment to stay alive in the field, there’s the Hydration component for carrying fluids, and then the Assault component for carrying everything needed for combat missions.
Like I mentioned earlier I am an outdoorsman myself, that’s why I could not wait to get my hands on this new back pack . When I did, I immediately tried it out on the field and was I satisfied. It certainly fulfilled its promises of being lightweight and durable. I recommend the ILBE to any outdoorsman who wants to have the best gear in tow when they go out.
