When you are planning a trek in the wilderness you need to plan well ahead of time to make sure you take all the necessary equipment. There is lots of modern equipment you could take with you from satellite phones to GPS locators but the equipment I am going to discuss are the general survival equipment that you should always have with you when you are in remote areas.

The first thing you should put in your bag is a tactical knife or one of the many types of hunting knives available. This piece of equipment can be used to build makeshift shelters and cooking equipment as well as spears for hunting this one piece of equipment can make the difference between survival and  death so do not skimp on a cheap weak knife as it is your best friend out in the wilderness.

The next thing you should have is a sleeping bag and a good tent even if the tent gets damaged you can build a shelter with your knife. Sleeping bags should have a high heat rating as its better to have a sleeping bag that is to warm rather than one that can’t keep you warm enough if it gets colder than you expected it to get.

The ability to start a fire is needed as well you should not just carry a lighter or matches but take a fire lighting kit that has a flint striker and tinder to catch the spark both of these will work even if they have been soaked in water as well as being bashed about unlike the lighter or matches.

You also need a small first aid kit as well as water purification kit. Your first aid kit needs to have the following scissors, tweezers, needle, water purification tablets, selection of bandages, plasters, iodine tablets, antiseptic cream, medical tape and a roll of gaffer tape in case you need to make a splint.

There are a lot more pieces of equipment you might need depending on your location but if you take the equipment above you will have all the basic tools to survive in the wild.
